Our mission

The Freelance Creative offers analyses of the creative freelance space and strategies for how individuals can maximize their freelance careers within the world of content marketing.

Our audience

Experienced freelance creatives: writers, designers, photographers, videographers, and more. Content can be broadly targeted toward these groups or narrowly focused on one subset.

Our publishing pillars

Pitches should fall under one of these four pillars:

Resources: Hands-on guidance for freelancers seeking to deepen their client base, keep up with best practices, and up their business savvy. Preference will be given to evergreen(ish) stories that provide lasting value.

Trends: Timely takes on news concerning the freelance economy and emerging trends in the freelance community.

Voices: Personal essays covering the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of self-employment in the content marketing space. (Please note: The Freelance Creative considers only complete essays. See below.)

Be a Better Contently Freelancer: Content in this pillar helps Contently freelancers navigate the Contently landscape—from getting set up with clients to navigating Contently projects and relationships to enhancing the value and quality of the work they deliver.

How to structure your pitch to The Freelance Creative

Pitches should offer:

Please note which pillar your idea falls under in your pitch.

How to submit a personal essay for our Voices pillar

The Freelance Creative is interested in receiving essays about modern freelancing: struggle, triumph, lessons learned, good clients, bad clients, the media landscape, family, relationships—any personal experience that stems from or is colored by freelancing.

Please note:

Pay

Pay for a typical 700-1,000-word story is around $500, but could be more or less depending on length, sourcing requirements, and other factors.
