Introducing The Freelancer’s All-New Rates Calculator

By Deanna Cioppa December 4th, 2018

Freelance writers, we have some great news. Maybe the greatest (it’s been that kind of year). First, a few questions:

  • Are you sick of guessing your proposed rate when pitching a new publication?
  • Are you afraid of overestimating the rate and disqualifying yourself from a project?
  • Even worse, are you worried about underestimating the rate and losing out on income?

We’ve been thinking a lot about these dilemmas for years, and we’re here to help by launching our new Freelance Rates Calculator.

Using market data from thousands of freelancers, our calculator provides an estimate for freelance rates on written assignments across multiple publications, verticals, and formats. Plug in a few pieces of information about where and what you’re pitching. Our algorithm will crawl data from across our Rates Database and Contently client projects to figure out what other freelancers have been paid for similar assignments. You’ll get an estimated rate to help you scope your pitch and protect your time.

Additionally, with your participation, the calculator will improve. The more rates you and your fellow freelancers contribute to our Rates Database, the more accurate our algorithm gets. So please help your fellow freelancers by clicking here to report your recent payouts.

We hope our new calculator makes it easier to plan your pitches, negotiate with your prospective clients, and thrive in your freelance career. Take a look, let us know what you think, and share it with your friends. Together, we’ll create a better freelance economy for all.
